What To Do When You Hear Nothing Back After Applying For Multiple Jobs

Most of us never stop to really think about why we want a job or even why we went to school. We just do it because it is what everyone has always been done, that's not to say there is anything wrong with the way it's done but understanding why will give you more resilience. Imagine you had all the money in the world, what would you do? You probably wouldn’t be looking for a job? Till you become a millionaire though you will need to continue working but the question i want to ask you today is what are your primary drivers for seeking a job. Below are a list of things that people seek a job for:

Money - In the short term money is the most important reason to seek a job, for the basic necessities in life we all need money BUT once you start making the money you may start feeling a sense of emptiness. Imagine if you got paid 100k a year to just sit in a room and do nothing, for a year or two you may do it for the money but once those needs were met you would want to do something that had some significance and utilize your skills and mind. The truth is there are 100’s of ways to make money if you are willing to put in the effort so why have you decided to get it through a job? If you are like most people then it is probably because it is the most convenient way and i’m not saying there is anything wrong with this but just helping you see a little deeper into why we do things.

Something to do - Imagine you did have enough money to survive but stayed at home all day because most of your friends were working. What would you be doing? We often complain about the drudgery of 9-5 but if we don’t have a concrete alternative we may find sitting at home to be equally as boring. Some people need a form of structure and routine and work usually offers that to us. This is why some people come out retirement and find jobs because they become bored at home. Why do you think athletes return to sports after retirement or shrivelled up artists decide to make another album.

Sense of fulfilment - Boredom is often a sign that we are not living up to our full potential, the truth is that even if you had a lot of money and you had something to do you could still be bored if you weren’t utilizing your skills and abilities to the fullest. If you are fortunate enough to find work that leverages your full capabilities you will never work a day in your life again. Until we have found a job or position that gives us this sense of fulfilment we will always feel like there is more we can contribute to the world. I personally don’t believe there are lazy people, i think there are people that haven’t found what drives them and there are also people that know what drives them but are too afraid to take action.

Understanding your driver for finding a job will push you through the rough patches and help you persevere when you aren’t seeing the results that you want.

Happy hunting!
